Dear readers of fashiontotal. Today we’re going to honor the blog’s name and combine sport and beauty. Today’s post is dedicated to a female athlete who’s better know for her beauty than for her athletic skills. She’s been considered as the female athlete in the recently held Beijing Olympics beating some of the most acclaimed female athletes in the world such as Amanda Beard, Blanca Vlasic or Carolina Kluft. As some of you may have guessed today’s post is dedicated to the Paraguayan javelin thower Leryn Franco, a real stunner. Don’t you agree with me? I love the piercing she wears in her navel.

Leryn Franco is a statuesque Paraguayan athlete who besides being really gorgeous is also a kind of javelin thrower. Leryn was born in Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay, on March 1 1982. She’s 175 centimeters high and her measures are those of a top model 94-60-90. Leryn participated in the last Olympic Games held in Beijing (her second Olympic Games because se had already competed in Athens 2004). I love her sports outfit and she looks really nice dressed as a javelin thrower. Nice sunglasses and nice bum. No wonder that she also trudges the catwalk besides throwing the javelin. In Athens 2004 she was ranked 42nd in the overall standings and in Beijing she didn’t do much better and finished in 51st position throwing the javelin 10 meters short of her personal best (55.38 metres). It seems that the only thing she did in Beijing was to get acquainted with Serbian tennis player and bronze medalist Novak Djokovic. As I said before Leryn is not only an athlete but also a professional model. She’s more of a model than a javelin thrower. Leryn Franco participated in Miss Paraguay contest in 2006. She almost won the contest getting the second place. Had I been a member of the jury she would’ve won for sure. After that, Leryn represented Paraguay in the Miss Bikini contest held in Behai’s beches in Southeast China where she again got the second place and was named First Princess after Ucranian representative Olena C. Why Princess? She’s a real Queen. Leryn says that working as a model allows her to keep on doing her favorite sport since the timetable is quite flexible and she can earn quite a lot of money as a photograph and catwalk model. Dear readers of Sport & Beauty. Sport and fashion are closely related. Female sport stars sometimes try to pursue a career in modeling or occassionally work as models. Perhaps the most famous example are Russian players Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova. But there are also beautiuf and gourgeous sportwomen in other sports. Today we are going to dedicate this post to the world’s female swimmer of all time: Amanda Beard. Amanda Ray Beard was born on October 29, 1981, in Irvine, California, United States of America. Both her sisters, Leah and Taryn, swam at local clubs and to impress them, Amanda Beard began jumping in the pool as early as four years of age. Eventually Amanda joined a swimming club and she soon started to stand out amongst her mates.In 1995, she earned a U.S. National Title in the 100-meter breaststroke, was named a National A team member, and took second place in the Pan Pacific Championships for the 400-meter medley relay. Amanda Beard was selected for the U.S. National Team that was gearing up for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. At the Games, Amanda Beard didn't disappoint. She took the silver medal in both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke, and the gold for her contribution in the breaststroke leg of the 400-meter medley relay. In doing so, she became the second-youngest American gold medalist in swimming history (Pokey Watson still retains the top title from her 1964 win). Amanda Beard graduated from high school in 1999 and enrolled at the University of Arizona, where she flourished even more under a new swimming coach. She took the silver at the 1999 World University Games in the 100-meter breaststroke, and the following year won the silver in the 200-meter at the NCAA Championships. She would take the event's top medal in 2001.

Amanda's performance at the 2000 Sydney Games was largely ignored by the media. She took the bronze in the 200-meter breaststroke (her fourth Olympic medal) but this latest accomplishment didn't grab any headlines. Nonetheless, the sporting world continued to view Amanda Beard as a hero. When she took a year off school in 2001 to travel the world to swim professionally, clubs throughout the world invited her to lead clinics and give motivational speeches. She wasn't just a pretty swimmer. She was a smart, inspiring pretty swimmer. In 2002, she broke the American record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Swimming World Cup, and bagged two gold medals in the Pan Pacific Championships. In 2003, she scored the highest honor of her still-burgeoning career. At the World Championships in Barcelona, she broke the world record in the 200-meter, becoming the No. 1 breaststroke swimmer throughout the world and history. At the 2004 Athens Games Amanda took the gold in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 400-meter relay. Away from the swimming pool Amanda Beard has also done some modeling. She has graced different issues of FHM and Playboy and has also modeled for the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I personally prefer her photo shooting for FHM (you can see the pictures in the slide at the end of the post). Like Pamela Anderson, Joanna Krupa and Fernanda Tavares amongst many others, Amanda is also an enthusiastic environmentalist and she usually cooperates with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in campaigns against the use of fur for clothing. Under the slogan “I’d rather be naked than wear fur” she tried to pose naked for PETA last week in Beijing but she had to give up since Chinese authorities banned the protest for public security reasons. Maybe Chinese authorities feared thousands of excited Amanda’s fans jumping at her. She wasn't just a pretty swimmer. She was a smart, inspiring pretty swimmer. In 2002, she broke the American record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Swimming World Cup, and bagged two gold medals in the Pan Pacific Championships. In 2003, she scored the highest honor of her still-burgeoning career. At the World Championships in Barcelona, she broke the world record in the 200-meter, becoming the No. 1 breaststroke swimmer throughout the world and history. At the 2004 Athens Games Amanda took the gold in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 400-meter relay. Away from the swimming pool Amanda Beard has also done some modeling. She has graced different issues of FHM and Playboy and has also modeled for the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I personally prefer her photo shooting for FHM (you can see the pictures in the slide at the end of the post). Like Pamela Anderson, Joanna Krupa and Fernanda Tavares amongst many others, Amanda is also an enthusiastic environmentalist and she usually cooperates with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in campaigns against the use of fur for clothing. Under the slogan “I’d rather be naked than wear fur” she tried to pose naked for PETA last week in Beijing but she had to give up since Chinese authorities banned the protest for public security reasons. Maybe Chinese authorities feared thousands of excited Amanda’s fans jumping at her. Anna Kournikova never won a WTA Tournament but became a symbol and a fashion icon. Since then many female players have followed her steps. Perhaps her most advanced pupil is her fellow countrywoman the gourgeous and beautiful Russian babe Maria Sharapova. Maria Sharapova is not only one of the beautiful and most beautiful athletes in the world but also plays tennis beautifully.

Maria Yuryevna Sharapova was born in 1987 to Yuri and Yelena in the town of Nyagan in Siberia, Russia. Previously her parents had lived in Gomel, Belarus, but were compelled to move after the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986. At the age of two her family moved to Sochi. There, Sharapova‘s father befriended Yevgeny’s Kafelnikov father, Aleksandre, who gave Sharapova her first tennis racket at the age of four. At the age of six, Sharapova attended a tennis clinic run by Martina Navratilova during the Kremlim Cup in Moscow. Martina noted Sharapova was talented but required professional training, recommending the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. Sharapova and her father, neither of whom could speak English, moved to Florida in 1994 with only 700$ in their pockets. Several days after their arrival father and daughter showed up at the IMG's Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida and in December 1995 Maria received a scholarship to the Academy and became a full-time student. Sharapova turned professional in 2001, although she played a total of just two WTA tournaments in 2001 and 2002 plus six challenger events. She became the youngest girl to reach the final at the junior Australian Open in 2002, and repeated this feat at Wimbledon later in the same year.

Shortly after Wimbledon 2008 a magnetic resonance imaging scan revealed Maria Sharapova had been suffering from a torn rotator cuff since April, and consequently, she announced she was to take a break of two to three months, ruling her out of both the Beijing Olympics and the US Open. Kurkova, 24, is best known for being a Victoria's Secret Angel whose superfit physique has graced the pages of fashion magazines around the world.

But her recent appearance at the Cia Maritima show during Sao Paulo Fashion Week had fashion critics up in arms.

An article in a Brazilian paper about the leggy 5'11" Kurkova described how "shocked" the audience was when she appeared looking uncharacteristically chubby with "cellulite on her butt."

Kurkova is one of the world's highest-paid models, according to Forbes.

In addition to Victoria's Secret, she has featured in campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel and Balenciaga.

The fashion industry has been under fire recently for its promotion of skinny models and pledged to adopt a more healthy image for young girls who often force themselves to become thin in the battle to secure a place among the top tier.

In 2006, Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston, 21, made headlines when she died of anorexia on the eve of a Paris photoshoot after subsisting on a diet of apples and tomatoes for several months. At 5'8", she weighed just 39.9kg.

In 2007, Uruguayan fashion model Eliana Ramos, 18, died of a heart attack believed to be related to malnutrition.

The shocking deaths prompted a public outcry and heavy criticism of the fashion industry for promoting unattainable standards of beauty.

Karolina Kurkova plays Covergirl in G.I.Joe

VICTORIA’S Secret lingerie model Karolina Kurkova plays Covergirl in Paramount Pictures’ G.I.Joe movie but her costume couldn’t be less covergirl-ish. Promotional photos show Victoria’s Secret angel dressed in ugly grey army fatigues - just when did authenticity get a role in action fantasy with a lingerie model?

No wonder some disappointment has been expressed by the boy-bloggers and fans of G.I.Joe. Information about the movie is sketchy, with even the industry Bible of film production imdb.com still listing Brendan Fraser on its cast list - a fact which Robert Sanchez of www.iesb.net has announced is wrong, after visiting the set.
Sanchez says he was one of only six members of the media allowed to visit the Downey Studios this week - though his interviews with the cast have been embargoed. Instead he writes on his blog about the studio location - which was once used by NASA to construct different vehicles for the Apollo Space Program and for the building of the Space Shuttles Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavor.
Again with the authenticity? The script is co-written by Sydney’s Stuart Beattie, who wrote Baz Luhrman’s Australia and the three Pirates of the Caribbean screenplays. But lets get it straight, for those of us who might think that G.I.Joe is a character, G.I.Joe stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity - a unit of black operatives who operate out of a headquarters called The Pit.
And the G.I.Joes go by loveable names such as Duke, Snake Eyes, and General Hawk. Apart from Robert Sanchez’s ravings about the sets, it appears that concern is that the casting of Dennis Quaid and the rubber outfits are signs that the movie will turn out a little camp. But Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in Phantom Menace, does play Snake Eyes.
Paramount released a few photos of cast in black rubber costumes a while back which met with cool to disappointed responses from online G.I.Joe fans. The latest photos were of Sienna Miller on set in her black rubber suit. There’s not a lot of compliments in the online community of potential theatre-goers - apart from the ravings of Robert Sanchez for iesb.net.
Not that Paramount will be worried about one flop next year, as Variety’s Anne Thompson reports in her blog, the studio raked in $1 billion on the back of a year of blockbusters including: Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda, Iron Man, and the No Country For Old Men, which won an Oscar for Best Film.
