William and Kate Carried In Multi-Coloured Thrones in Unforgettable Tuvalu Visit

William and Kate touched down in Tuvalu today for the last leg of the royal tour. The Duke and Duchess were met on their arrival at Funafati airport by the Governor-General and a Guard of Honour.

The couple were carried off their aircraft on multi-coloured thrones to the welcoming ceremony where William gave a speech on behalf of the Queen. Over half of the 10,500 population came out to greet the couple.

Tuvalu is a tiny Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia. Its population of 10,544 makes it the third-least populous sovereign state in the world. Sadly Tuvalu is one of the places on earth that is most vulnerable to the effects of global warming. The threat of sea level rise may bring complete disaster to Tuvaluans residing on nine extremely low-lying coral atolls.

Former Prime Minister Saufatu Sopoanga said:

'We live in constant fear of the adverse impacts of climate change. For a coral atoll nation, sea level rise and more severe weather events loom as a growing threat to our entire population. The threat is real and serious, and is of no difference to a slow and insidious form of terrorism against us'.

The last Royal visit to Tuvalu took place in 1982, when the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh travelled on Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia. It was said to be a very special visit for the Queen who no doubt wanted William and Kate to see the striking nation for themselves. The Cambridges stopped to look at a coconut tree planted by the Queen.

Next, the couple will visited the primary school and university campus before watching a canoe race and local ball game. The Duke and Duchess also visited a mocked-up traditional Tuvaluan village, where they viewed demonstrations in crafts and cooking. Tonight the couple will attend a dinner hosted by the Governor-General.

Kate didn't make an outfit during the trip and wore the primrose lace dress dotted with flowers from the airport departure earlier today. It is designed by an independent designer. The Duchess also wore her Stuart Weitzman wedges and Kiki Citrine Drop Earrings.
